The Mai Tais news:

9/17/07: Hey, Mai Tais fans. Hope you've been having a great summer! We've just finished a couple of super fun shows. We were out in the MASSIVE heatwave of Labor Day Weekend at The Orange Street Fair, but it didn't stop us from putting on two solid sets of intro-surf deliciousness. We just kept the water intake to a maximum and did what we do best, getting the music flowin' and the crowd movin'.

And then...a last minute addition.

The Mai Tais were asked to open up as a support act for the legendary SURFARIS at The Coach House in San Juan Capistrano. We did our best to rip it up and had a great show! The Surfaris were awesome...Thanks to all the fans, family and friends that came out to see us at such late notice, and special thanks to Corvette Sandy for making the arrangements.

Be sure to catch us at The Race for The Cure! See our SHOWS page for more info!

8/16/07: We can't believe how fast this year is going! The Mai Tais played some totally fun and rocking shows so far, and you've got a couple more chances to catch us doing our thing this summer! We also met up with a couple of other surf bands, and we're excited about networking with 'new blood'... keeping surf music alive and vibrant. Catch us all combining forces at the Orange Street Fair on Labor Day Weekend!

As the summer starts to wind down, The Mai Tais will be knuckling down into stealth mode...working on a lot of new material, heading into the studio, and developing our plans for eventual world domination. However, we will be popping up for air and making some club appearances. Keep your eyes peeled!

5/16/07: We've got a pretty busy summer ahead of us! We're looking forward to the long days, warm weather, and rocking out for lots of folks in Southern California. Check out our shows page for upcoming gigs!

Unfortunately, we had a bit of a technical meltdown during the recording of The Mai Tais: LIVE at The Surf City Saloon in November of last year. We were so excited to capture the energy of The Mai Tais live, and everyone who came out gave 100% support. Needless to say, we were upset when the recording didn't pass muster at The Mai Tais Quality Control. We salvaged three songs from the master tapes and those will be included on our demo CD, which can be purchased directly from the band at our live shows, or get a hold of us via the contact page, and we will get one off to you courtesy of the US Postal Service...

We are going through the video footage and will post something soon!

Many thanks to Trudy LeClair, Billy Carter, Jonas Laster, Greg Hill and all the others who helped out during the recording.

4/05/07: We dressed up in our best duds, and headed off to The Grove of Anaheim on Saturday, March 31, for the 2007 Orange County Music Awards. And gosh darnit, if we didn't actually WIN! It's OFFICIAL! The Mai Tais are the BEST SURF BAND for 2007!

So, now that we have this heady reputation to keep up, be sure to come catch us live and make us prove it to ya! Good stuff!!!!

3/20/07: Ok, it's been too long since we updated the site, but we been playin' music, bookin' some new shows, and writin' some new tunes! Ok, maybe we goofed off just a little bit, but we won't tell if you don't...

We couldn't have been resting on our laurels too much, because THE MAI TAIS were recently nominated for the 2007 ORANGE COUNTY MUSIC AWARDS 'Best Surf Band'! Totally cool! The upcoming ceremony is Saturday, March 31, 2007, at 8:00 PM at The Grove in Anaheim (2200 E, Katella, Anaheim 92806; 714 712-2700). Tickets for the ceremony are $20.00 per person ($8.00 for parking), and will be available at the box office of The Grove or through Ticketmaster. We will be there dressed in our Sunday best, and we're hopin' to take home the prize!

Rich is on Monday nights, 7-10pm PST.

The Mai Tais have entered the ORANGE COUNTY MUSIC AWARDS competition! We're jumping in headfirst for the Best Live Band in Orange County! See our SHOWS page to see how you can join in on the fun.

12/1/06: Summer has gone and we're headlong into the holidays! The Mai Tais had a busy summer and fall, as we played quite a few outdoor festivals and picked up a regular club slot at The Surf City Saloon in Huntington Beach. So, on the second and fourth Thursdays of the month, we keep spreadin' the word that music is supposed to be fun, and we've got it in spades. On November 11, we documented ourselves for posterity with a live recording and videotaping "Live from The Surf City Saloon", and we are mixing and editing it now, so stay tuned!

4/21/06: The Mai Tais are honored to be sharing the stage with one of the best of the best of the surf instrumental scene. We are playing with The Torquays on June 17th. Cool! check out this link for more info. http://www.aloha-cruz.com/island_beach/island_beach4.htm

We are continuing to book Spring and Summer shows and look forward to putting out more high-energy surf vibrations as the weather gets warmer and warmer! Are you ready? The Mai Tais have also completed recording and mixing of three original tunes: Twinfin, Firepit, and Droppin' In. We took the leap and recorded and engineered these recordings ourselves this time around and they came out purty dang good! More recordings are in the works. If you want a listen, take a peek at our 'media' page for a small snippet, and give us a holler for a copy of the CD. And keep your eyes out for The Mai Tais playing live...we're coming to your town and we're taking names! Check out the 'shows' page! And if you want to be on our e-mailing list to know when and where The Mai Tais are rocking out, send us an email and we'll make sure you know...

2/7/06: Happy New Year! Did you miss us? The Mai Tais took a nice little break during the holidays to spend time with family and friends. As 2006 rolls in, we are in the process of recording our first EP with all original tunes. We promise...it'll cook!! We are also setting up our live performance schedule for Spring and Summer, with our next two gigs at The Block at Orange. See our Shows page for more info. Keep checking back and come out and catch The Mai Tais in action! We might even make ya Hula Hoop for good measure!

9/7/05: Wow...San Elijo! The Mai Tais take the prize as being the FIRST live band to ever play the San Elijo State Beach Campground. Ok...maybe it's not a Grammy, but we had an absolute blast. By the end of the set, we had them dancing in the aisles. And you can't beat a sunburnt little girl dancing like crazy with a big grin on her face and a Mai Tais lei around her neck! And by the end, we had her mom and dad dancing too!

Grammy schmammy....

Thanks to the park rangers and everyone who came down to see us. We'll be back, armed with more light next time!

8/1/05: Ok...the secret location has been finally revealed! The Mai Tais will be rocking to a shoreline sunset at the San Elijo State Beach in Cardiff. See our Shows page for more info. Rumours have it that Hugo Drax, Mr. Blofeld, and Mr. Scaramanga (with his superflous 3rd nipple, of course) will be in attendance, but we have no confirmation at this time. At least you don't have to worry about the secret lair disintegrating around you during our set. Come on down, enjoy the beach, and catch some Mai Tais' action.

7/29/05: The Mai Tais continue with forward momentum. We picked up a couple more shows. One is in the pocket, at the San Clemente Street Fair. Check our show listing for more info and come see us rock San Clemente! The other is in the works for Labor Day Weekend at a hidden, secret location. (We were hoping for a James Bond style underground lair, but there were logistical problems. Basically, no one would give us directions how to get there....because....you know...it's a secret?!) Check back for updates! We've also got some new tunes coming your way! We're planning on heading back into the studio to record some original tracks in October, so brace yourself for some fun and raucous surf vibrations, Mai Tais' style!

5/21/05: The Mai Tais make their first public appearance, at Chris and Wendy's going away party. We rocked the house, or the back yard, that is, and wished Chris and Wendy a safe and successful journey on their next adventure. An encore was called for, so we ripped out an extra round of 'Bermuda Triangle Shorts'. Thanks to Chris and Wendy for a good time! We'll get some pics up soon!

5/10/05: The Mai Tais are officially online! Welcome! The site is brand new and pretty simple, but we'd love to hear from you and see what you think. Keep checking back to see when The Mai Tais are playing and new additions added to the site. Pics, music, news and show times...it's all coming!
